After you’ve seen the movies and, eventually, read the books or vice-versa if you want, the next best thing out there for a Mario Puzo fan is to play a game. I played Mafia back in its days and I wanted more. I still remember watching the first Godfather teaser over and over again. The music, the voice, the man, all these are just incredible. Recently, I finally managed to get The Godfather and here is what I have to say about it. Let’s see if this game is really an offer you can’t refuse.

Of course, no one is holding a gun to your head. If you think you don’t like such a universe, setting or story, then it’s better if you look elsewhere. Such games are best experienced when you actually know a little bit about their source of inspiration, in this case Mario Puzo’s books. It all evolves around this central character who acts like a Godfather to some, but most important like a real father for everyone who comes to him showing and paying respect. It’s all a big family for him or as he clearly puts it, “I spent my whole life trying not to be careless. Women and children can be careless. But not men.” That’s why he asks Luca Brasi to take care of you and, in the beginning of the game, what you might call a tutorial takes place under Luca’s supervision. You’re just a punk on the rough streets of New York trying to make a buck from small scams. Luca introduces you to the family, but then it’s up to you to get more respect and earn the trust of the other members.
