Lately, war is the main theme of many games out there and it's true that producers enjoy developing such games, while we play them with a lot of enthusiasm. If the First or Second World War is the main subject today, the Cold War is like a deep dark secret no one is going to talk about. Well, Cold War does it. It's a virtual universe set in a period where a freelance journalist is caught in the middle of a conspiracy, which should remove the actual president of URSS and replace him with the head of KGB. The basic idea which fuels the entire story is credible if you like conspiracy theories, so who doesn’t? Conspiracies don't care about the political regime, region or time. Those who didn't enjoy the period when KGB was king in Russia and not only there indeed, can now experience a fictional story with a deep emotional impact.
The storyline of Cold War is as simple as it gets. Barinsky, a KGB head full of wild ideas, is conspiring against the president of URSS. On the other hand, the main hero, Matt Carter, the freelance journalist I told you about, arrives in Moscow to assist to a secret meeting between the president, the head of presidential guards, Grushkov, and a scientist from Chernobyl, Sofia Yakovleva. Matt reaches the Mausoleum where the meeting was going to take place (Lenin is also there, but unfortunately he is dead silent), but in the middle of the discussion his hiding place is discovered and Barinsky shows up accusing him of trying to kill the president. Grushkov and Yakovleva are accused of treason and collaboration with the CIA, so they are arrested together with Matt, as they would have lured the president into a trap. The fact is that Matt is not a CIA assassin, but they added a few deadly devices in his luggage at the airport and so, he cannot prove his innocence. This is where a game of cat and mouse between Carter and Barinsky starts and continues throughout the whole game. There are four single-player modes (Story, Time-Run, Pacifist and Ghost) and if we combine them with the three difficulty settings then we get some serious replayability possibilities.
