There is just one kind of sequel that I usually like to play, the one which continues the story in a surprising, unexpected and entertaining manner. Most movies, games and sometimes books (see Harry Potter) end in a certain way that most of the time leads to a sequel. Sometimes, the story is so fascinating that I badly need that sequel, but when I get the same thing all over again, I feel disappointed (again see Harry Potter). As a professional entertainment consumer as I am, I will always try to avoid such awkward situations. I admit that many producers today don't like to take any chances with brand new ideas and franchises, but repeating the same elements again and again, leads to the same negative consequences. That's basically what happened with Bloodrayne 2 and unfortunately, this second part inherited only the worst genes of its predecessor and even worse, it mutated.
In the first part, the locations were really creepy and the story was developing in a way that you always had the impression something was happening. Now, you'll get to the end of the game and wonder if you've done something meaningful. Obsessed with the idea of revenge, Rayne begins a crusade against Kagan's kids, uncovering a plot which could lead to the end of humanity as we know it. Imagine vampires walking in daylight, sucking human blood without any need to hide. LOL! OK, let's get serious. The game is divided in 8 parts, each of them spawning different locations and levels, some longer, some shorter. The most memorable moment was the climbing a huge tower, the location where you fight with the one and only, my love Ferril, the best looking vampire girl I've ever seen in my life. She would have certainly been the subject of a morbid sexual fantasy, if I weren't married. The fight seems endless and it forces you to concentrate a little bit. After a while, you feel like smoking a cigarette, drink some coffee and, of course, take a break. I hit Esc, light the cigarette, grab the coffee cup and choose Exit from Main Menu. Something stopped me. I remembered. You can save only in the beginning of a level, but you cannot save checkpoints. Now, the problem is exactly the tower. It's so long that you really don't want to play it all over again. After another couple of such brakes I reached the top, but I was burning with fury and the length of the level wasn't the only reason.
