Whenever you tell a fan of George Lucas’ films that a new Star Wars game is in the making, the first things that will undoubtedly pop into his head will be lightsabers, spectacular duels, Jedi knights, Sith lords, the Force or the famed X-Wing and TIE fighters. This is understandable, since the above mentioned elements have all become trademarks for any Star Wars title, a SW game without them being almost inconceviable. This time however, Lucas Arts decided to try a new approach and give the players the possibility of experiencing some of the unseen events from the Clone Wars from the perspective of an elite Republic soldier.

The action in Republic Commando takes place between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and the yet unreleased Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, fact which has given the developers a great deal of latitude in regards to the story and the enemies that you’ll be facing. As you might have guessed from the game’s title, in Republic Commando the player assumes the role of Delta 38, the leader of a highly trained commando squad, which will undertake some very dangerous missions for the Republic, most of them behind enemy lines. But don’t worry, you won’t face these dangers alone, since you'll have three highly trained commandos following your orders: Delta 40, aka Fixer. He’s your standard soldier, doing everything by the book, but with an affinity for hacking security consoles. Delta 62 - Scorch. He’s the joker of the group, his sense of humor and ironic comments being a little contradictory to his specialization – demolitions. And last but not least, Delta 07, aka Sev. Sniping is his favorite activity, having a more than antisocial character and caring only about his own kill count at the end of each mission. Definitely the homicidal psychopath of your squad.
An interesting aspect is that despite the fact that all the squad members are clones of the same person, their voices perfectly reflect their personality, Delta 38 being the only one whose voice sounds almost like that of Jango Fett, the bounty hunter who served as a template for the Republic’s Clone troopers.
