I waited a few years for a game to recreate the atmosphere of the movie Lord of the Rings, a series that wrote history and generated a wave of media events inspired by Tolkien's book. Even if we've seen a few titles based on this trilogy, the one from last year was a little bit more special, using a very impressive graphic engine, capable of rendering the imagination of a famous writer on my tiny monitor. There are dozens of games inspired from Tolkien's universe, but Lord of the Rings-Battle for Middle Earth is one that follows the epic story from the novel. Last year, we've seen the end of the trilogy, but now it's the time for me to become an active participant in this digital battle, it's time for me to shape the future of Middle Earth.

I eagerly waited for this game to be launched and it really didn't disappoint me. I began the single-player campaign immediately after the game was installed and I soon experienced the action that influenced the cinematographic scene of the few last years. Compared with Command & Conquer, LOTR-Battle for Middle Earth is not a game mostly about multiplayer, as the single-player has its own special part, contrasting a little bit with the rules of modern gaming. Now, if the multiplayer is the foundation of all RTSs, the single-player campaign felt like a refreshing ocean breeze.
The story is based on the Tolkien's novel, so if you've read the book or seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about and the locations are spread all over Middle Earth. Even if the first few missions seem like a piece of cake, after a while the difficulty increases and the intelligence of a good tactician will be tested continuously. The human's campaign begins in Moria, where the fellowship of the ring starts the quest for saving humanity. As in the movie, Gandalf fights Balrog and it’s a fight you must win if you want to continue. On the other hand, the orcs’ campaign starts with the attack on Isengard and the preparation for the complete annihilation of Middle Earth. The two campaigns that Battle for Middle Earth has to offer complement each other and the main storyline is usually respected throughout all the missions, recreating this way a kind of immersion between the movie and the game, unseen until now.
